Engine Mounts and PCV Valve
Vibrations were felt on the steering wheel at idle in Drive and Reverse gears, a problem frequently discussed on forums with various attributed causes: mounts, valves, timing chain, spark plugs, fuel, etc.
Lately, the vibrations became uncomfortable even for passengers. After analysis and monitoring the progression of the vibrations, it was concluded that the engine and transmission mounts were worn out. A visual inspection didn’t reveal any obvious issues — all mounts were intact, with no cracks.
The result was a complete disappearance of the vibration.
An accelerometer showed that the vibration in the cabin (steering wheel and central console) was reduced by 70%.
Below are photos of the new and old mounts. All markings, seams, and rubber parts matched those of the factory-installed ones.
A hissing sound during acceleration, similar to air being released, was noted. Following the manual, the functionality of the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve was checked. A friend kindly provided a 1/2" 17 head, the valve was replaced, and the hissing was eliminated.
