Engine compartment cleaning is an often overlooked aspect of vehicle maintenance that can prevent corrosion, improve performance, and increase the lifespan of various components. Here’s a step-by-step guide based on the sequence of application:

  1. Brush: Use a brush to clean off sand, leaves, and bugs. This initial step removes loose debris that could otherwise get trapped or cause damage during the wet cleaning process.

  2. 10mm wrench: Utilize a 10mm wrench to disconnect the battery. This precautionary step ensures safety and prevents any electrical short circuits when cleaning with liquids.

  3. Plastic wrap and tape: Use wrap and adhesive tape to cover sensors, connectors, and the belt. This protects sensitive components from water and cleaning agents, which could potentially cause damage or electrical issues.

  4. Protective gear: Wear a mask, goggles, and gloves. It is essential to avoid inhaling fumes from cleaning agents, prevent irritation or injury from splashes, and protect the skin from harsh chemicals.

  5. Engine cleaner spray: Apply Liqui-Moly 3963 Motorraum-Reiniger, which is designed to cut through grease, oil, and built-up grime without damaging engine components.

  6. Hand sprayer: Use a hand sprayer filled with water for rinsing. I found that 3 liters of water were sufficient for a thorough rinse. This step removes the cleaning agent along with the dissolved dirt and grease.

  7. Engine conservation spray: Apply Liqui-Moly 3327 Motor-Versiegelung for external conservation of the engine. It creates a protective layer against moisture and dirt, making future cleaning easier and protecting surfaces from corrosion.
